One cause of vertigo that is often overlooked is spinal misalignment (called subluxation) in the neck. The joints and muscles in the neck have receptors that send signals to the brain and inner ear to assist with balance and coordination. When your spine is working properly, these signals are unobstructed, and your brain gets the proper input about your balance. When a subluxation occurs, there can be interference with the communication to your brain and vertigo can occur. This type of vertigo is known as cervicogenic vertigo, also known as cervical vertigo. The dizziness from cervicogenic vertigo frequently occurs from sudden neck movements, most commonly turning your neck.
