Patient: R.M.
Age: 65
Primary Complaint: Chronic low back pain
Treatment: SoftWave Tissue Regenerative Therapy
Treatment Frequency: Once weekly for 12 weeks
Reported Outcome: 80% reduction in low back pain
A 30-Year History of Low Back Pain
R.M. came to Trinity Advanced Health with a long history of severe low back pain that had progressively worsened over the years.
His symptoms began approximately 30 years earlier following a serious horseback riding accident. While crossing a bridge, his horse became spooked, causing both R.M. and the horse to fall approximately 15 feet into a dry creek bed. The horse landed on top of him.
Following the accident, R.M. developed persistent low back pain that eventually became a daily problem.
Over the years, he tried multiple approaches to manage his symptoms, including chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, PEMF therapy, and acupuncture. Although some of these treatments provided relief, he described the improvement as minor and temporary.
Low Back Pain Was Limiting the Activities He Loved
By the time R.M. sought treatment with SoftWave Therapy, his low back pain was interfering with many of his normal recreational and daily activities.
He enjoyed staying active but reported that he could typically play only two or three games of pickleball before his back pain became too limiting. Bowling, golf, and even routine yard work had also become difficult.
Travel presented another challenge.
R.M. regularly traveled to Hawaii and reported that after the long flight, his back pain would typically be severe enough that he needed to spend his first day in Hawaii in bed recovering before he could begin enjoying his vacation. After flying home, he would often need another day in bed to recover from the return trip.
Examination Findings
R.M.’s examination revealed findings consistent with his longstanding low back complaint, including:
- Lumbar paraspinal muscle spasm
- Tenderness in the lumbar region
- Segmental restrictions of the lumbar spine
Based on his history, examination findings, and chronic nature of his symptoms, a course of SoftWave Tissue Regenerative Therapy was initiated.
SoftWave Treatment
R.M. received one SoftWave Therapy treatment per week for 12 weeks.
SoftWave Therapy uses electrohydraulic acoustic waves that are applied to targeted areas of the body. The goal of treatment is to stimulate biological responses within the treated tissue and support the body’s natural healing processes.
Treatment was performed on the areas associated with R.M.’s chronic low back complaint, with his progress monitored throughout the course of care.
The Results
By the completion of his 12-week treatment program, R.M. reported an approximately 80% reduction in his low back pain.
Just as importantly, he noticed substantial improvements in his ability to participate in activities that had previously been limited by his back.
He reported being able to:
- Play pickleball with significantly less pain
- Bowl with less difficulty
- Return to playing golf more comfortably
- Perform yard work with significantly less pain
One of the most meaningful improvements became apparent during a trip to Hawaii.
Following his SoftWave treatment program, R.M. reported that he was able to tolerate the long-haul flight to Hawaii without needing to spend the following day in bed because of his low back pain.
Instead of losing the first day of his vacation recovering from the flight, he was able to get up and enjoy his trip. He also reported that he did not need his usual day in bed after returning home.
More Than Just a Change in Pain
For R.M., the improvement wasn’t simply about reporting a lower level of pain. It meant being able to participate more comfortably in the activities that were important to him.
After living with low back pain for approximately three decades, he reported an 80% decrease in pain following 12 weekly SoftWave treatments along with meaningful improvements in recreation, yard work, and travel.
Could SoftWave Therapy Help Your Chronic Pain?
At Trinity Advanced Health, we use SoftWave Tissue Regenerative Therapy as a non-invasive treatment option for appropriate patients experiencing chronic musculoskeletal pain and other conditions.
A SoftWave Discovery Session allows our team to evaluate your condition, identify areas that may be contributing to your symptoms, and determine whether SoftWave Therapy may be appropriate for you.
Individual results vary. This case study describes one patient’s experience and is not a guarantee that other patients will experience the same results.
